Stephen Horst,
M.Sc. Alumnus

Mr. Horst received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from The Ohio State University in 2004. He entered the PhD program at Georgia Tech in the fall of 2004 under the advisement of Dr. John Papapolymerou. Mr. Horst’s research interests lay primarily in the design of high frequency communication systems and the engineering problems associated with creating them. As such, he has been involved in a wide array of projects all the way down the design chain including simulation, fabrication, and measurement.

His research at Georgia Tech heavily involved creating system-on-package techniques on Liquid Crystal Polymer (LCP) substrates. LCP is a flexible organic material that is intriguing for use in millimeter wave applications because of its low dielectric loss as well as its potential for low cost packaging due to its near-hermetic properties. Early research has involved pioneering low cost integrated lumped elements and interconnects to use as building blocks for the millimeter wave circuits currently under development. Mr. Horst completed his PhD dissertation by demonstrating the unique advantages of an LCP system-on-package by combining these circuits into a simple millimeter wave system.
